Novi Home Show: Tour 6 stunning homes, learn how they're made

Oct 17, 2024Oct 17, 2024

The Michigan Manufactured Housing Association will showcase six stunning manufactured home models this weekend at the Novi Home Show for visitors to tour.

Manufactured homes are constructed in a controlled factory environment on a steel frame, designed for use with or without a permanent foundation when connected to utilities. Once completed, they are transported to the home site in one or multiple sections and can be placed on private property or in a land-lease community. These homes are built to adhere to the federal Manufactured Home Construction and Safety Standards Act, enforced by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), according to MMHA.

For those interested in modular homes, these also are factory-built but assembled on-site by licensed builders, adhering to state and local building codes. Modular homes may be one- or two-story dwellings but must be placed on private property and comply with the State of Michigan Residential Building Code.

According to the MMHA, Michigan consistently ranks among the top 10 states for receiving manufactured home shipments, with 4,934 shipments in 2022 and 3,212 in 2023. Since Jan. 1, 2021, more than 12,000 new homes have been shipped to Michigan.

"The manufactured home models featured at this event redefine what’s possible in our industry," said John Lindley, President and CEO of MMHA. "Representatives from manufacturing companies, manufactured home communities, and retailers will be on hand to guide visitors through the model homes and offer valuable insights into manufactured home living, including placement options on both community and private properties."

The homes on display starting Friday at the show at the Suburban Collection Showplace will feature open floor plans, kitchens with granite countertops and islands, and luxurious primary baths, all designed by leading industry manufacturers. Company representatives will be available to answer questions and provide valuable insights.

The event will showcase three single-section and three multisection homes, ranging from 1,056 to 1,699 square feet. Each model includes at least two to three bedrooms, and at least two bathrooms, with prices ranging from $46,748 to $149,999, catering to a broad range of buyers.

“These homes provide an opportunity to showcase the breadth of what the manufactured housing industry can provide, from extraordinarily affordable beautiful single-section home at $46,748 to a nearly 2,000-square-foot multisection home,” Lindley added.

He emphasized the affordability of manufactured homes, their energy efficiency, and the quick turnaround from purchase to market. Lindley pointed out that after purchasing a manufactured home, buyers can close within 16 to 90 days, enabling a faster move-in process.

Participating manufacturers at the show include Clayton, Skyline, and Champion.

“We host these showcases so that people can come out, see, touch, feel, and tour the homes,” said Lindley.
