Police Searching for Suspects Who Damaged Vehicles in Berthoud

Sep 02, 2023Sep 02, 2023

The Larimer County Sheriff's Office (LCSO) is searching for suspects involved with a series of recent incidents in Berthoud.

According to a Facebook post from LCSO, suspects have been throwing water balloons off the overpass on W County Road 10E, causing "significant damage" to six vehicles over the past few weeks.

The incidents have not caused any injuries, but deputies in Berthoud have been unable to locate the suspects.

"Dropping objects into traffic isn't just a harmless prank. It has the potential to cause a crash, seriously damage property, and even cost lives," said Patrol Lieutenant Joshua Fast in the post. "We need our community members to help us identify those responsible so we can stop these dangerous incidents and prevent a tragedy."

This isn't the first time throwing objects has caused havoc in Colorado in 2023.

ABC News reports that 20-year-old Arvada resident Alexa Bartell died in April after a rock flew through her car's windshield during a seven-incident crime spree in Jefferson County.

In May, 9News revealed that authorities charged three suspects — high school seniors Joe Koenig, Mitch Karol-Chik, and Zachary Kwak — with Bartell's murder.

LCSO deputies are increasing patrols in the Berthoud area while they search for suspects in the water balloon incidents. If you have any information about this case, call Deputy Zack Anderson at (970) 498-5597 or anonymously report tips to Crime Stoppers of Larimer County at (970) 221-6868.
