Exact Architects is redeveloping the historic Harvey Dutton Lofts, a former dry goods storage building in Kansas City’s Garment District.

The 40,000-square-foot structure will be converted into 38 residential units along with 3,600 square feet of commercial space. The new space will feature a 2,500-square-foot restaurant, a 500-square-foot café, and a 625-square-foot retail area, adding vitality to the surrounding neighborhood while preserving the building’s historic character.

In collaboration with the city, the project will also revitalize an adjacent pocket park to further enhance the development’s long-term success. With a total investment of $10 million, the project is utilizing Federal and State Historic Tax Credits (HTC) and a 10-year tax abatement through the Land Clearance Redevelopment Authority (LCRA).

The Harvey Dutton Lofts redevelopment will serve as a model for integrating modern urban living with the preservation of Kansas City’s historic architecture.
